Freestyle vs Breaststroke: Which is Better for Weight Loss?

Frankz Zboncak

If you’re trying to lose weight, it can be hard to know which swimming stroke is best for you. Some people believe that breaststroke should be the go-to stroke for anyone looking to lose weight. But others have found freestyle swimming to help them burn more calories than breaststroke does. So which one is better?

This blog post will explore the differences between freestyle and breaststroke as well as how they benefit your health and fitness goals!

Freestyle

Freestyle swimming

Freestyle is a great workout for beginners and it’s also the fastest way to burn calories in the pool. But it will take time and practice to get your Freestyle stroke down. Finding your pace is more important in freestyling than breaststroke because freestyle stroke require rhythm to get the most benefit.

Aside from the calorie-burning aspect, there are some other benefits of freestyling that make this a popular choice for beginners: It’s an easier swimstroke (when you try to do correctly) than breastroke because you’re not working against gravity in order push yourself through water with every single arm motion. The fact is you have way more control over how fast or slow things go if they happen when one limb goes on top versus trying both limbs at once. You can also maintain better form while swimming without having as much drag – or resistance caused by movement across surfaces.

You need a lot less space, and can focus on individual parts of the body (like arms or legs) more than you could in breaststroke. For example, let’s say your right arm is tired – while swimming freestyle with one good stroke after another – you’re not going to have that problem because it only needs half as much energy for each push through water; whereas if both sides are getting used at once then there will be twice without enough time between sets so they’ll get too worn out.

So, by choosing freestyle, you will:

  • Burn calorie faster
  • Be able to exercise all parts of your body, but also be able to exercise indivudual parts of the body
  • Require better pacing
  • Burn your energy faster

Breaststroke

Breaststroke

Breaststroke is an excellent, low-impact exercise that doesn’t put too much pressure on the joints. It also provides good exercise for the entire body. What’s more, breaststroke is great if you have a lot of weight to lose because it minimizes drag from water and allows for faster speeds. Because of that, breaststroke is perfect for people with weight problem.

The downside to breaststroke is that it can be more difficult because of the lack motion in your upper body and you have less control over direction. This also means a lot if effort goes into one dominant arm. Furthermore, there’s not much variation or progression; even beginners will eventually reach an “advanced” technique level where changes are few at best – though still possible! In addition: higher energy requirements since both sides need equal work done per stroke, more water resistance and less time on the surface.

So, by choosing breaststroke, you will:

  • Be easier for your joints
  • Easier to perform, but harder to master
  • Lack motion in your upper body

High intensity workout

If you’re looking for a high intensity workout, freestyle might be better because it’s more rigorous than breaststroke. This is because freestyle typically has a more vigorous stroke than breaststroke.

Freestylers will often move their arms in an alternating fashion over the water while kicking hard to create additional speed and power, whereas those who swim with breasts strokes tend not have as strenuous of arm movements or kicks per breath/swim length (most just do one flutter kick). Freestylers also need better muscle strength for propulsion: they use both upper-body muscles like shoulders that must be strong enough so you can keep your torso up out on top without sinking down into -and using less energy when swimming back! Breaststrokers won’t require such powerful shoulder rotations since there isn’t much resistance at all due to lower water level in which they are submerged.

Breaststrokers will require more endurance and stamina – since breaststroke is done with both arms. Breast stroke can often take longer to master for beginners because you have less leg movement than if doing so while using side kicks or an alternating kick pattern like most do during freestyling – with breasts stroking we don’t expend energy by lifting our legs up out from underneath us at all!

Breathing is most important

Breathing is the key to weight loss while swimming freestyle or breaststroke. Breathe out as you pull your arm through, and breathe in on every stroke cycle (one push off with one hand followed by an inhale). This technique will help regulate breathing patterns so that we can swim for longer periods of time without feeling too tired – which means more calories burned!

Final thought

Both strokes are perfect way to lose weight. It all comes down to personal preferences & which stroke you are more familiar with. Both strokes are good for toning muscles and improving cardiovascular health. If you’re looking for an more intense workout, try butterfly – this stroke will burn the most calories and give your muscles the biggest challenge.
